After seeing the way Jamie welcomed and raised Alice as a pup in 2010, we were eager to see him welcome Nancy into the pack a decade later in 2020. It was everything we expected.
Left: on the night Nancy arrived in our home, Jamie wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. Right: by a week later, Nancy was full integrated into Jamie's pack.
Looking back over the photos of Nancy's early days with the pack, I'm struck by how she experienced so many of the walks and places that Jamie and Alice knew so well. Nancy was only in Seattle for eight weeks, but that was right at the beginning of COVID lockdowns so she got lots of walks around town with Jamie and Alice because we weren't going to the office or going out in the evening. COVID was tragic for so many in those early days, but for us it was a gift to have a socially acceptable reason to spend so much time bonding with the newest member of the pack.
Jamie and Alice showing Nancy all their favorite places in Seattle. The first night in Seattle with Nancy (on Megan's lap) and Strummer (on mine). We had driven them down from Canada that day, and the next day we would all be driving through the snow to Montana. As of this moment we didn't know that Jamie's growing pack would be living in Montana soon, but we had talked about the possibility as something that might happen "some day."
Left: Jamie and Alice taking Nancy for a walk across the Jose P. Rizal bridge in Seattle. Jamie and Alice walked across this bridge countless times, usually headed to night walks downtown. Right: late on the night of 4/3/2020, after the U-Haul was all packed up, we took one final walk across the Jose P. Rizal bridge. Early the next morning, we moved to Butte, Montana.
